The first five years are the most vital years in any child’s life. These are the years that require extensive mental stimulation to develop the brain. At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Keller we run a successful and trusted brain development program that has changed the lives of many families. Below we have compiled a list of useful information regarding your child’s brain development.

Growth

During the first five years of your child’s life, the brain changes rapidly. It grows to 80% of an adult sized brain by the age of three, and 90% by the age of five. These changes are due to individual neurons which are structured much like trees. Picturing a tree: each brain cell begins as a tiny sapling, then gradually sprouts its dendrites. The growth of the brain is due to these dendrites.

Milestones and brain development

Brain development goes hand in hand with each child’s milestones. The first five years are critical to the development of a child’s character and the achievement of certain milestones. Milestones occur at different ages as shown below:

3 years old

  • Ride a tricycle
  • Assemble simple puzzles
  • Run around obstacles

4 years old

  • Can catch and throw a ball
  • Cuts on a line
  • Can brush teeth and comb hair

Reaching these milestones will vary with each child. Gradually they will be achieved as he or she grows.

Child brain development is important for social and emotional skills at Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy in Keller. Our brain development program philosophy is “Hug First, Then Teach.” This allows us to teach your child in a safe and secure environment. Our program aids in building strong, healthy relationships with staff members, and a child’s peers.
