Amidst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, our minds are filled with thoughts of fun get-togethers, Secret Santa gift swaps, and evenings filled with Christmas lights and hot cocoa. It’s equally important to be thinking about safety during this busy time of year. With just a little bit of patience and planning, you and your family can celebrate a fun, safe, and memorable holiday together.

Here are a few Holiday Safety Tips from the National Safety Council to keep in mind:

  • Keep your Christmas tree away from fireplaces, radiators and other heat sources. Make sure the tree does not block foot traffic or doorways.
  • Don’t overload your extension cords. Use no more than three light sets per extension cord and place cords against walls to avoid creating a tripping hazard.
  • When displaying outdoor lights, fasten them firmly to a secure support with insulated staples or hooks to avoid wind damage. Never nail, tack or use stress wiring when hanging lights. Keep plugs off the ground away from puddles and snow.
  • As you prepare your Christmas feast, remember to not defrost food at room temperature. Instead, thaw meat in the refrigerator in cold water or in the microwave.
  • After everyone’s belly is full, refrigerate or freeze leftovers in covered shallow containers (less than two inches deep) within two hours after cooking. Don’t forget to date the containers!
  • Cold weather and holiday traffic can sometimes take a toll on your vehicles. Prepare your car for the winter by checking items such as the brakes, spark plugs, battery, and tires.
  • At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Keller, your child’s safety is always our primary concern. Our facility is a secure, password-protected building equipped with cameras in each classroom. We love to provide peace of mind to our parents by offering live online viewing access to their child at anytime during the day. All of our staff members are trained in First Aid/CPR, Infectious Disease Control, Injury Prevention, and Child Abuse Awareness and had a very extensive background check done before being hired.

If you have any questions about our facility or staff team we invite you to contact us! We would love to give you a tour and answer all of your questions.
